An ME60 Received Large Amount of PADI Packets and Its CPU Utilization Was High Due to a Layer 2 Loop

Publication Date:  2013-09-30 Views:  54 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

The CPU utilization of an ME60 to which DSLAM users connected reached 100%, causing online users to decrease from 5000 to 3000.

ME60 version: V6R2C02SPC700+SPC019

Networking:

ME60-------CX600--------DSLAM

Handling Process

Huawei completed the following steps to diagnose the problem:

1. Queried CPU statistics. A board in slot 6 received/transmitted user services. The board received many PPPoE packets, some of which were discarded.

PES_EXCP_ID_PPPOE_CTRL: indicates that PPPoE packets were lost.

HOST_CAR_TO_CP: indicates the number of lost packets.

2. Checked the log buffer. No exception was found.

3. Queried NE logs (log.log). Packets originating from VLAN 305 were lost.

4. Disabled VLAN 305 on the CX600. CPU utilization was normal and all users can be online.

5. Asked the customer to check information about VLAN 305. A loop was found.

Root Cause
A loop occurred on a VLAN. The ME60 received a large amount of PADI broadcast packets.
Solution
Disable (shutdown) the VLAN on the CX600 and remove the loop.

None
