The Hard Disk Reports an I/O Error After the lsiutil Command is Executed

Publication Date:  2012-07-17 Views:  412 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
When the customer runs the lsiutil command on the RH2285 server with the Red Hat 5.3 operating system, the RH2285 server hangs. The kernel panic is displayed on the KVM.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Solution 1:
To avoid the blank screen, stop I/O read and write before using the lsiutil command.
Solution 2:
Because lsiutil is a third-party scanning tool and is not compatible with Huawei Symantec products, it is not recommended to use the lsiutil to scan for and locate disks.
Root Cause
  1. When the lsiutil command is being executed, the back end scans for the hard disk model of the server and the I/O errors.
  2. During I/O read and write, conflict occurs when both the operating system and the lsiutil command invoke the drive. As a result, a blank screen is displayed.
It is recommended to use the tool that is compatible with Huawei Symantec products to locate disks.
