Issue Description
The client cannot obtain the IP address after the network extension function is started.
Alarm Information
None.
Handling Process
  • Cause one: There is no reachable route between the virtual gateway and the DHCP server.

    1. Log in to the Web-based NMS, and then click System Maintenance in the System Management navigation tree. Click the Remote Test tab. The configuration page is displayed.
    2. Select Ping from the Network test drop-down list.
    3. Enter the IP address of the DHCP server in IP address/Host name.
       NOTE:
If you enter the host name for testing, you need to enter the name of the virtual gateway in Virtual gateway name of Advanced Parameter Options. Otherwise, the host name cannot be correctly resolved.
    4. Click Ping to check the network connection.

If the DHCP server cannot be pinged through, check the network connection and routing configurations.

  • Cause two: The DHCP is not assigned with an IP address.

Contact the administrator of the DHCP server to check whether the network extension user is assigned with an IP address. If the user is not assigned with an IP address, contact the administrator of the DHCP server to re-configure the DHCP server.

  • Cause three: The virtual IP address (for network extension) assigned on the DHCP server or from the IP address pool conflicts with other IP addresses on the device, which results in the assignment failure.

The IP addresses in the virtual IP address pool cannot be the IP address of the virtual gateway or the interface. Make sure that the IP address assigned on the DHCP server or from the address pool is not identical with that of the virtual gateway or the interface.

  • Cause four: The DHCP client service in the OS of the user PC is disabled.

    1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services on the user PC.
    2. Right-click DHCP Client in the service list. Select Start.

  • Cause five: No IP address in the address pool can be assigned.

    1. Log in to the Web-based NMS, and then click Network Extension in the Virtual Gateway List navigation tree.
    2. View the configuration of the IP address pool of Network Extension>>IP Address Allocation Mode of the Client. Compare the configuration with that of the IP addresses assigned in Network Extension>>In-service Client List. If all the IP addresses in the address pool are assigned, re-configure the IP address pool to expand the range of the IP addresses that can be assigned.
       NOTE:
Modifying the configuration of the IP address pool leads to the logout of all users. Therefore, modify the configuration of the IP address pool when the volume of service traffic is low.
    3. Click Submit.
