# FAQ-How to Calculate the Computing & Memory & Storage Capabilities of a FusionCube Cluster

Issue Description

How to calculate the available virtual resources in a FusionCube cluster based on the computing and storage capabilities of hardware devices.

Solution

## [Analysis]

FusionCube integrates both hardware and software, and virtualizes physical CPUs, memory resources, and hard disks into virtual resources for users to use.

The following section uses examples to show how to calculate the computing and storage capabilities of a FusionCube cluster based on the hardware configuration.

The following table lists the example hardware configuration.

 Node Type CPU Memory Hard Disk USB Flash Drive MCNA01 2xE5-2640 21x8 GB+4 GB NVDIMM 15x300 GB 4 GB MCNA02 2xE5-2640 21x8 GB+4 GB NVDIMM 15x300 GB 4 GB LCNA 2xE5-2640 21x8 GB+4 GB NVDIMM 13x300 GB 4 GB SCNA 2xE5-2640 21x8 GB+4 GB NVDIMM 12x300 GB 4 GB CNA 2xE5-2640 12x8 GB N/A 4       GB

NOTE:

1E5-2640 is a six-core CPU, and its dominant frequency is 2.5 GHz.

2All nodes listed in the preceding table are in the same cluster.

## [Calculate Method]

1CPU resources

In this example, the FusionCube system has five blades. Each blade has two six-core CPUs, and the dominant frequency of each CPU is 2.5 GHz. Each core can be virtualized into 2 vCPUs.

Total CPU frequency = 5 x 2 x 6 x 2 x 2.5 = 300 GHz

The Domain 0 of each blade uses 4 vCPUs. CPU frequency used by Domain 0 of all servers = 5 x 4 x 2.5 = 50 GHz

CPU frequency available to the cluster = 300 – 50 = 250 GHz

2Memory resources

The 4 GB Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module (NVDIMM) is used for storing FusionStorage metadata and does not provide memory resources.

Therefore, the total memory space provided by hardware = 21 x 8 GB x 4 + 12 x 8 GB = 768 GB (base 1000)

Memory space used by Domain 0 of each blade is shown as follows (base 2):

Management Computing Node Agent (MCNA): 28774 MB

Lite-Manage Computing Node Agent (LCNA): 28774 MB

Storage Computing Node Agent (SCNA): 26726 MB

CAN: 5837 MB

Total memory space used by Domain 0 of all blades = 28774 x 2 + 28774 + 26726 + 5837 = 118885 MB (base 2)

When measured in base 10: 118885 MB = 124.7 GB (118885 x 1024 x 1024/1000/1000 = 124660.0 MB)

Memory space available to the cluster = 768 - 124.7 = 643.3 GB (base 10)

3Storage resources

FusionStorage only consolidates hard disks of the MCNA, LCNA, and SCNA nodes. Three hard disks on the MCNA and one hard disk on the LCNA are used for other purposes.

300 GB (base on 1000, not for 1024) = 279 GB (base on 1024)

Each hard disk also has 10 to 20 GB space for storing management data. The size of the space is determined by the scale of a storage cluster.

Total storage space provided by hardware = (279 - 15) x 12 x 4 = 12672 GB (base on 1024)

In the FusionStorage system, two or three data copies are stored to improve data security. If three data copies are stored, the storage space available to a cluster is as follows:

Storage space available to a cluster = 12672/3 = 4224 GB (base on 1024)
