What are the functions of a Trap IP address? What are its configuration prerequisites?
After a Trap IP address is added, the system sends the alarm information to the specified application server or maintenance terminal. The ISM provides a function for adding Trap IP addresses. Then the storage devices managed by the ISM client can send their alarms to other network management systems or specified devices. Trap IP addresses are required for SNMP-based alarm reporting.
Improper Trap IP addresses prevent the alarms from being sent to the specified devices. The prerequisites for setting a Trap IP address include:
Trap IP function-related software has been installed on the application server. For example, the mibbrowser8 software must be installed on the application server running the Windows 2003 operating system.
The IP address format is XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. Each byte must be an integer.
The value of the leftmost byte ranges from 1 to 223. The IP address 127.0.0.1 is a loopback address; therefore, do not set this byte to 127 to avoid loopback address conflicts.
