|When the RH2285 server with the LSI1068E-SAS card (12 disk slots) and without RAID is used, the hard disk in slot 1 serves as the system disk. After the Linux system is installed and runs, run the fdisk –l command. Only 11 hard disks can be viewed and the SDE hard disk is not detected. After several restarts, the fault persists.|
Step 1 Restart the device. Press CTRL+C to enter the LSI1068E-SAS card configuration interface according to the prompt during the system startup. Select SAS Topology and check all hard disks. It is found that the hard disk in bay 4 is not detected (the hard disks in LSI1068E-SAS card are numbered from 0 and those in the RH2285 is numbered from 1).
Step 2 Reinsert the hard disk in slot 5 (bay 4). Restart the system after confirming that the hard disk is tightly inserted. Repeat step 1 to enter the SAS card configuration interface and check the hard disks. In this situation, the hard disk is still not detected.
Step 3 Use a backup disk to replace the hard disk. Repeat step 1 to enter the SAS card configuration interface and check the hard disks. In this situation, the hard disk is still not detected.
Step 4 Power off the device. Wear ESD gloves and open the cover. Remove the protective panel on the mainboard. Use a spare SAS cable to replace the SAS cable that connects the LSI-SAS card and server backplane. Power on the device and repeat step 1 to enter the SAS card configuration interface and check the hard disks. In this situation, the hard disk is still not detected.
Step 5 Power off the device. Wear ESD gloves and remove the SAS card and SAS cables. Remove all hard disks. Unfasten the screws that fix the backplane and replace the backplane. Install the components in the reverse order. Power on the device and repeat step 1 to enter the SAS card configuration interface and check the hard disks. The hard disk is detected and SAS card can be identified. Run the fdisk –l command. 12 hard disks are detected and the SDE disk is normal.
