For S5500T V1R5 storage device, there is one faulty disk that should be replaced. Customer is asking us if possible to swap the spare disk as member disk and copy the data from the faulty disk to the spare disk.
it is possible and provided the steps to perform this operation.
Is it possible to replace the drive enclosure 2, slot 4 (which has been marked as faulty before) _without_ having another RAID rebuild, which would have a performance impact but would also might put a danger to the data (if another drive fails).
• Copy the data from the ‚faulty‘ drive to he hot spare or drive.
• Replace ‚faulty‘ drive with new drive
• New drive becomes hot spare
The faulty Disk will become the hot spare, and the Spare Disk will take his place as a RAID group member. In this case, data reconstruction will occur only one time.
Step 1. Log in to ISM
Step 2. Swap the Faulty Disk with the Spare Disk from the ISM menu
Step 3. After this process finish, locate the Faulty Disk
Step 4. Replace the Faulty Disk with the new Disk.
Step 5. Unlocate the Faulty Disk.
Step 6. The new Disk will be discovered as a free Disk. It’s necessary to set the new Disk as Spare Disk.
Because the Step 2 assumes data reconstruction, this step will take long time. We can proceed with the RMA request to change the “faulty” Disk after data reconstruction is finished and it will be set as a hot spare.
