What is the disk spin-down technology? How can a spun-down RAID group be spun up again?
The disk spin-down technology sets the hard disks that are free of I/O operations to sleep mode by software control. Then the disk motors and heads stop rotating, but the power supply to the disks remains normal.
You can spin up the spun-down disks by either of the following two methods:
Send I/O requests to the spun-down disks.
On the ISM, disable the spin-down function for the desired RAID group.
On the ISM, choose Storage Resources > RAID Groups.
In the function pane, select the RAID group, and choose Advanced > Set Spin-down. The Set Spin-down dialog box is displayed.
