Issue Description
This issue and the related solution are under particular conditions. The circumstance is described as the following:
The storage of the host is provided by the storage array with thin provisioning, which is one of the new features of S5000T series storage products. The SQL Server 2008 software is installed in the Thin LUN mapping by the storage unit. When the host loses the storage mapping (As the service link disconnected and unexpected power off of the storage unit), or it cannot perform the writing operation to the storage space (As the thin pool is full), SQL Server software goes abnormal. The appearance is that you cannot connect to SQL Server 2008 with its manager software.
Alarm Information
None
Handling Process
1)      In the SQL Server Configuration Manager there should be only two services running. Stop both of the running services.
2)      Start the services from top to bottom in the SQL Server Configuration Manager. Then problem resolved.

Root Cause
1)      If the host loses the storage mapping or it cannot perform the writing operation to the storage space, SQL Server software is not able to save the running data. Then something wrong caused and some services which keep the SQL Server running stopped.
2)      Although we know the cause of this problem is that services stopped, we cannot start the services in usual ways. The following methods have been approached and didn’t work: starting the services in the service manager of Windows system; and starting the services in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Suggestions
The key operation to deal with this issue is to restart the two running services; otherwise you cannot start the rest ones.
