How to Install E9000 Memory Modules

Issue Description
IT engineer need to know how to install dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs) on E9000 servers for capacity expansion or during parts replacement.

Handling Process
The following section uses CH121 and CH222 blades of E9000 servers as an example to show how to install DIMMs.
The following figure shows the internal structure of a CH121 blade.



The DIMM installation sequence of CH121 blades is as follows:
Ÿ If only CPU 1 is installed, DIMMs should be installed based on the following sequence: 1A1, 1B1, 1C1, 1D1, 1A2, 1B2, 1C2, 1D2, 1A3, 1B3, 1C3, and 1D3.
Ÿ If both CPU 1 and CPU 2 are installed, DIMMs should be installed based on the following sequence: 1A1, 2A1, 1B1, 2B1, 1C1, 2C1, 1D1, 2D1, 1A2, 2A2, 1B2, 2B2, 1C2, 2C2, 1D2, 2D2, 1A3, 2A3, 1B3, 2B3, 1C3, 2C3, 1D3, 2D3.
The following figure shows the internal structure of a CH222 blade.



The DIMM installation sequence of CH222 blades is as follows:
Ÿ If only CPU 1 is installed, DIMMs should be installed based on the following sequence: 1A1, 1B1, 1C1, 1D1, 1A2, 1B2, 1C2, 1D2, 1A3, 1B3, 1C3, and 1D3.
Ÿ If both CPU 1 and CPU 2 are installed, DIMMs should be installed based on the following sequence: 1A1, 2A1, 1B1, 2B1, 1C1, 2C1, 1D1, 2D1, 1A2, 2A2, 1B2, 2B2, 1C2, 2C2, 1D2, 2D2, 1A3, 2A3, 1B3, 2B3, 1C3, 2C3, 1D3, 2D3.
Root Cause
CPUs of E9000 servers use the quad-channel memory architecture. If the memory slots are not fully occupied, the DIMMs must be placed in the optimal positions to maximize memory and CPU performance.

Engineer can check this case to know the DIMM installation sequence of CH121 and CH222 blades.
