Creating RAID 10
Scenarios
- Data on a hard drive will be deleted after the hard drive is added to a RAID array. Before creating a RAID array, check that there is no data on hard drives or the data on hard drives is not required. If the hard disk data needs to be retained, back up the data first.
- The LSI SAS2308 supports SAS/SATA HDDs and SSDs. Hard drives in one RAID array must be of the same type, but can have different capacities or be provided by different vendors.
- RAID 0, 1, 10, and 1E lists the number of hard drives required by each RAID level.
Procedure
- Backed up data on hard drives and access the Configuration Utility main screen. For details, see Logging In to the Configuration Utility.
- Log in to the Create Configuration screen.
- On the main screen, select Main Menu and press Enter. Select Controller Management and press Enter.
- Select Create Configuration and press Enter.
- Select a RAID level.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Select RAID Level and press Enter.
The list of configurable RAID levels are displayed.

- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Select RAID Level and press Enter.
- Select member drives.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Select Physical Disks and press Enter.
The hard drive selection screen is displayed, as shown in Figure 5-33. Table 5-13 describes the parameters on the screen.

Description
Selected RAID Level
Indicates the selected RAID level.
Select Interface Type
Selects an interface type. If the controller card controls hard drives of different interface types, you can use this parameter to filter the hard drives.
Select Media Type
Selects a hard drive type. If the controller card controls hard drives of different capacities, you can use this parameter to filter the hard drives.

Indicates the selectable hard drives.
NOTE:If there are multiple hard drives, multiple hard drive records are displayed.
Check All
Selects all listed hard drives.
Uncheck All
Deselects all hard drives.
- Select member drives by referring to Table 5-13.
- A RAID 10 array can contain four, six, eight, or ten hard drives (even numbers).
- If the total number of hard drives in all RAID arrays under a RAID controller card exceeds 14, no hard drive can be added to RAID arrays.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Select Physical Disks and press Enter.
- Save the settings.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Apply Changes and press Enter.
A confirmation screen is displayed.

The drive status changes to [X].
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Yes and press Enter.
The message "Operation completed successfully" is displayed.
- Select OK and press Enter.
The configuration is complete.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to select Apply Changes and press Enter.
- Check the configuration result.
- On the main screen, select Virtual Disk Management and press Enter.
- Select Manage Virtual Disk Properties and press Enter.
Current RAID information is displayed.
