Configuring a dedicated hot spare drive
Scenarios
After hard drives of a server are configured with array properties, hot spare drives are configured to increase security and reduce impact on services caused by hard drive faults.
Prerequisites
Conditions
- The server has idle hard drives.
- You have accessed the Configuration Utility main screen. For details, see Logging In to the Configuration Utility.
Data
Data preparation is not required for this operation.
Procedure
Access the Configuration Utility main screen. For details, see Logging In to the Configuration Utility.
Enter the hot spare drive Configuration Utility.
- On the Controller Operations main screen, select Logical Device Configuration and press Enter.
The Logical Device Configuration screen is displayed, as shown in Figure 10-138.
- select Manage Arrays to display the array list, as shown in Figure 10-139.
- Select an array and press Enter to display the array operation list, as shown in Figure 10-140. The parameters are described in Table 10-23.

- Select Failover Assignment and press Enter.
The operation list is displayed.
- Select Add Spares and press Enter.
The hard drive list is displayed, as shown in Figure 10-141.
[ ] indicates the hard drive can be configured as a hot spare drive.
- Select a hard drive to be configured and press Enter.
The drive status changes to [X].
- Select ADD and press Enter.
