Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide 36

This document describes the appearances and features of the redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller cards, how to configure properties for the RAID controller cards, and how to install drivers. The RAID controller cards include the LSI SAS2208, LSI SAS2308, LSI SAS3008, LSI SAS3108, LSI SoftRAID, PM8060, and PM8068.

Transparent Transmission

Transparent Transmission

Also known as hard drive pass-through, this data transmission method is one in which data is not processed by transmission devices and only transmission quality is guaranteed.

The controller card enables user commands to be directly transmitted to connected hard drives, facilitating upper-layer services or management software in accessing and controlling the hard drives. For example, when installing an OS on a server, configure a hard drive mounted to the controller card as the installation drive, as opposed to just a configured virtual drive.

You can enable/disable the transparent transmission function by enabling/disabling the JBOD mode.

The LSI SAS3108 supports virtual disks and passthrough disks. Before using passthrough disks, enable the JBOD mode. To disable passthrough disks, disable the JBOD mode. For details, see Configuring JBOD Mode.

  • The JBOD mode can be enabled only when the LSI SAS3108 firmware version is 4.650.00-6121 or later. To use drives in JBOD mode, you must install a corresponding RAID controller card driver.
  • After the JBOD mode is enabled for the LSI SAS3108, the status of the hard disks that have been configured as virtual disks remains unchanged, and the status of other unconfigured hard disks become passthrough disks (in JBOD state). If you need to configure a passthrough disk as a virtual disk, set the disk status to Unconfigured good.
  • If a hard drive in JBOD mode is faulty, the Fault indicator on the drive will not be lit and the BMC will not generate an alarm.
