RAID Rebuild

In a RAID array with redundancy, data on a failed member drive can be rebuilt to prevent data loss.

A RAID rebuild applies to the following scenarios:

  • If a hot spare drive is available when a member drive of a RAID array fails, the controller card automatically adds the hot spare drive to the RAID array and rebuilds data on the new member drive using data on other member drives or redundant data. During the rebuild process, the RAID array enters degraded or partially degraded mode, and the new member drive is in the Rebuild state.
  • If hot or emergency spare is not enabled, the RAID array enters degraded or partially degraded mode when a drive fails. When the failed drive is removed and replaced by a new drive, the RAID controller automatically adds the new drive to the RAID array and starts rebuilding data.
