This document describes the CX910 10GE switch module (CX910 for short) of the Tecal E9000 server in terms of its features, installation, removal, and configuration. This document applies to the CX910 whose GE/10GE switching planes use the software versions of 1.1.x.x.x, and 1.23-1.99.

Configuring the Password for Login over a Serial Port

Scenarios

You need to set the login password when logging in to the 10GE switching plane of the CX910 over a serial port for the first time.

NOTE:
  • Ensure that the password complexity check is enabled. The password complexity check is enabled by default.
  • For security purposes, change the initial password upon the first login, and then change the password regularly.

This password is used only for login over a serial port. A user with this password has the highest permission on the 10GE switching plane, including permission to control all 10GE switching plane resources, create users, assign rights to the users, and perform all operations provided by the 10GE switching plane.

NOTE:

The authentication methods include password authentication and Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA). Password authentication is used when you configure the password for login over a serial port.

The password is case-sensitive and must meet the following requirements:

  • Contain 6 to 16 characters.
  • Contain at least two types of the following characters:
    • Uppercase letters A to Z
    • Lowercase letters a to z
    • Digits 0 to 9
    • At least one of the following special character: .`~!@#$%^&*()-_=+\|[{}];:'",<.>/
  • Cannot be the same as the user name or the user name in reverse order.

This user is the default BMC user, and has the highest permission on the BMC.

Software

PuTTY.exe is free software. You can download it from the Internet. The PuTTY used to log in over a serial port must be 0.60 or later.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the 10GE switching plane CLI.

    1. Connect the PC RS232 serial port to the BMC serial port on the CX910 panel by using a DB9-RJ45 cable.
    2. Use a serial port communication tool to log in to the BMC CLI of a switch module.

      The key communication parameters are as follows:

      • Serial Line to connect to: COMn
      • Speed (baud): 115200
      • Data bits: 8
      • Stop bits: 1
      • Parity: None
      • Flow control: None
      NOTE:

      n indicates the serial port number, and the value is an integer.

      This document describes how to use PuTTY to log in over a serial port. For details, see Logging In to a Server Over a Serial Port by Using PuTTY

    3. Switch the SYS serial port to the 10GE switching plane by running the following BMC command.
      NOTE:

      Run the following BMC command to switch the SYS serial port to the 10GE switching plane.

      root@BMC:/#ipmcset -d systemcom -v 1

      If the switching is successful, the following information is displayed:

      Set systemcom successfully! 
      Serial port direction is:Fabric Com     

      After that, you can connect to the SYS serial port by using a serial cable and log in to the CLI of the 10GE switching plane.

  2. Log in to the CLI of the 10GE switching plane.

    1. Use a DB9-RJ45 cable to connect the PC RS232 serial port to the SYS serial port on the CX910 panel.
    2. Use a serial port communication tool to log in to the 10GE switching plane CLI of a switch module.

      The key communication parameters are as follows:

      • Serial Line to connect to: COMn
      • Speed (baud): 115200
      • Data bits: 8
      • Stop bits: 1
      • Parity: None
      • Flow control: None
      NOTE:

      n indicates the serial port number, and the value is an integer.

    3. Press Enter, and set a password for logging in to the 10GE switching plane.

      The command output is as follows:

      Please configure the login password (6-16) 
      Enter Password: 
      Confirm Password:

      Set the password for login over a serial port as prompted. The system automatically saves the password.

      NOTE:

      The entered password is not displayed on the terminal screen.

      After login, the host name is displayed at the command prompt.
