Configuring the IP Addresses of Management Network Ports

This topic describes how to configure the IP addresses of the management network ports on each switching plane of the CX910.

Scenarios

Configure the IP addresses of the management network ports on the 10GE switching plane in the CX910.

The IP addresses of the management network ports for the 10GE switching plane can be configured locally or on the MM910:

  • Set the IP addresses of the management network ports for the 10GE switching plane over the WebUI of the MM910. For details, see the procedures in this topic.
  • Run ip_address on the CLIs of the 10GE switching plane respectively to configure the IP addresses of the management network ports for the 10GE switching plane. For details, see the CX91x Series Switch Modules V100R001C00 Command Reference.
  • Run swipcontrol on the CLI of the MM910 to configure the IP addresses of the management network ports for each switching plane. For details, see the MM910 Management Module V100R001 Command Reference.

You can log in to the CLI of the switching plane from a PC by using the IP address of the management network port.

This user is the default user of the MM910 OS, and has the highest permission on the OS.

Software

PuTTY.exe is free software. You can download it from the Internet. The PuTTY used to log in over a serial port must be 0.60 or later.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the MM910 WebUI.

    Log in to the MM910 WebUI. For details, see Logging In to the MM910 WebUI.

  2. Perform operations based on the MM910 versions.

    • If the MM910 version is (U54) 2.20 or earlier, go to 3.
    • If the MM910 version is later than (U54) 2.20, go to 7.

      You can run the smmget -l smm -d version command on the MM910 CLI to check the software version.

  3. In the navigation tree of the HMM Web page, choose System Management > Network Management.

    The Network Management page is displayed.

  4. Click the swiN tab.

    The IP Address page is displayed.

    • N indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4, mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E from left to right.
    • fabric indicates the 10GE switching plane.

  5. Select a switching plane for which the IP address is to be configured, and enter the IP address and subnet mask.
  6. Click Modify, and complete the modification as prompted.

    You can click Query to check that the settings take effect.

  7. On the HMM Web page, select Chassis Settings.

    The Chassis Settings page is displayed.

  8. In the navigation tree on the left of the Chassis Settings page, choose Network Settings > Swi.
  9. Click Edit.

    Edit the IP addresses of the management network ports on the onboard GE switching plane and the 10GE switching plane for the specified switch modules.

    Fabric indicates the 10GE switching plane.

  10. Click Save.

    The IP addresses of the management network ports on the 10GE switching plane is successfully configured.

  11. (Optional) Configure the gateway of a switching plane.

    1. Use an SSH connection tool to connect to the floating IP address of the of the MM910 to log in to the CLI of the MM910.

      This document describes how to use PuTTY to log in over SSH. For details, see Logging In to a Server Over a Network Port by Using PuTTY.

    2. Configure the gateway of a switching plane. Ensure that the switching plane properly communicates with network which the PC is connected to.

      smmset -l swiN:fruM -d route -v targetvalue maskvask gatewayvalue

      The parameter descriptions are displayed as follows:

      • N indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4, from left to right mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E.
      • M: indicates the ID of a switching plane. The value 2 indicates the 10GE switching plane.
      • targetvalue: indicates the target network segment IP address of the switching plane.
      • maskvask: indicates the subnet mask of the switching plane.
      • gatewayvalue: indicates the gateway address of the switching plane.
