Removing Cables and Optical Modules

Removing Cables and Optical Modules

This section describes how to remove cables and optical modules before replacing a switch module.

Procedure

  1. Remove a GE network cable or serial cable.

    • Before removing cables, record the connection sequence and positions of all the cables on the switch module to be replaced.
    • The cables to a switch module vary depending on the port type. Determine whether to remove or connect a cable as required.
Figure 6-27 Removing a GE network cable or serial cable
    NOTE:

The BMC serial port, SYS serial port, and GE electrical port are standard RJ-45 ports, and cables can be removed from them in the same way.

  2. Remove the optical cable and optical module from a 10GE or 8 Gbit/s FC optical port.

    1. Remove the optical cable from the optical module. See (1) and (2) in Figure 6-28.
Figure 6-28 Removing the optical cable
    2. Install the dustproof caps for the optical cable. See (3) in Figure 6-28.
      NOTE:

The methods for removing an optical cable from a 10GE optical port and an 8 Gbit/s FC optical port are the same.

    3. Determine the type and position of the optical module based on site conditions.
    4. Horizontally remove the optical module from the optical port. See (1) and (2) in Figure 6-29.

  3. Remove the optical module and optical cable from a 40GE optical port.

    1. Determine the type and position of the optical module based on site conditions.
    2. Horizontally remove the optical module from the optical port. See (1) in Figure 6-30.

    3. Remove the optical cable from the optical module. See (2) and (3) in Figure 6-30.
    4. Install dustproof caps for the optical cable and optical module, respectively. See Figure 6-31.
