Installing Cables and Optical Modules

Install cables and optical modules after switch module replacement.

Procedure

  1. Connect a GE network cable or serial cable.

    NOTE:
    • The BMC serial port, SYS serial port, and GE electrical port are standard RJ-45 ports, and their cables can be installed in the same way.
    • Before installing a network cable to a network port, check that the network cable connector is intact and the pins have no sundries or deformation.

  2. Insert the optical module and optical cable into the 10GE or 8 Gbit/s FC optical port.

    1. Determine the type and installation position of the optical module based on site requirements.
    2. Horizontally insert the optical module into the optical port until the optical module snaps into place. See Figure 6-42.

    3. Remove the dustproof caps from the optical cable. See (1) in Figure 6-43.

      NOTE:

      The methods for connecting an optical cable to a 10GE optical port and an 8 Gbit/s FC optical port are the same.

    4. Insert the optical cable into the optical module. See (2) in Figure 6-43.

  3. Connect the optical module and optical cable to the 40GE optical port.

    1. Determine the type and installation position of the optical module based on site requirements.
    2. Remove the dustproof caps from the optical cable and optical module. See Figure 6-44.

    3. Insert the optical cable into the optical module. See (1) in Figure 6-45.

    4. Horizontally insert the optical module into the optical port until the optical module snaps into place. See (2) in Figure 6-45.
