Adding Modules

Adding Modules

This section describes how to add and upgrade the compute nodes, switch modules, fan modules, and PSUs of the E9000.

Procedure

  1. Determine the types and quantities of the modules to be added.

    • Before adding switch modules, contact Huawei technical support engineers to determine the networking configuration based on site requirements.
    • If switch modules are added, the corresponding NICs of the compute nodes must be added.
    • Use the Huawei Server Power Calculator to determine the quantity and configuration policies of PSUs. For details about PSU configuration policies, see PSU Configuration Policies.
    • Determine whether to add fan modules according to the quantity of compute nodes after capacity expansion. Fan modules are configured based on the following guidelines:
      • When a chassis houses eight or fewer half-width compute nodes, or four or fewer full-width compute nodes, install fan modules in slots 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14.
      • When a chassis houses more than eight half-width compute nodes or more than four full-width compute nodes, fully configure fan modules.

  2. Install the modules to be added. For details, see Installing the E9000.
  3. Log in to the MM910 WebUI and click the expansion modules and existing modules to view and record their software versions.

  4. Check whether the expansion module versions match the existing module versions. For details, see the version mapping information on the Software Download tab page.

  5. Configure the expansion modules. For details, see "Configuring the CHxxx" in the CHxxx Compute Node User Guide or "Configuring the CXxxx" in the CXxxx Switch Module User Guide.
  6. Configure the networking between the compute node NICs and switch modules by referring to the E9000 Blade Server Mezzanine Module-Switch Module Interface Mapping Tool and site requirements.
