Replacing a Half-Width/Full-Width Compute Node

Procedure

  1. Determine the compute node to be replaced.

    Figure 6-6 show the slot numbers of half-width compute nodes.

    Figure 6-7 and Figure 6-8Figure 6-8 show the slot numbers of full-width compute nodes.

    NOTE:
    • A maximum of 16 half-width compute nodes or eight full-width compute nodes can be installed in an E9000 chassis.
    • The compute nodes must be installed in slots from bottom to top.

  2. Power off the compute node.

    Before powering off the compute node, ensure that service data has been backed up.

    For details about how to power off a compute node, see the compute node user guide.

  3. Remove the compute node.

    1. Press the ejector release button(s) on the compute node. See (1) in Figure 6-9 and Figure 6-10.

    2. Completely open the ejector lever(s) on the compute node. See (2) in Figure 6-9 and Figure 6-10.
    3. Horizontally pull out the compute node from the chassis. See (3) in Figure 6-9 and Figure 6-10.
    4. Close the ejector lever(s) on the compute node. See (4) in Figure 6-9 and Figure 6-10.
    5. Place the removed compute node into an ESD bag.

      An ESD bag can hold only one compute node.

  4. Determine whether to replace the components in the compute node.

    • If yes, replace the faulty components. For details, see the CHxxx Compute Node User Guide.
    • If no, go to 5.

  5. Install a new compute node.

    • Install a half-width compute node.
      1. (Optional) Install a partition board.
        NOTE:

        You need to install a partition board between two half-width compute nodes. Perform this operation only when no partition board is installed between two half-width compute nodes.

        1. Tilt the partition board and insert it into the chassis. Align the partition board with the installation holes and then make the partition board upright. See (1) and (2) in Figure 6-11.
        2. Pull the partition board outward. See (3) and (4) in Figure 6-11.

          The partition board is properly installed when you hear a clicking sound.

      2. Press the ejector release button on the half-width compute node. See (1) in Figure 6-12.

      3. Completely open the ejector lever on the half-width compute node. See (2) in Figure 6-12.
      4. Horizontally insert the half-width compute node into the chassis. See (3) in

        Figure 6-12.

      5. Close the ejector lever on the half-width compute node. See (4) in

        Figure 6-12.

    • Install a full-width compute node.
      1. (Optional) Remove the partition board.
        NOTE:

        Perform this operation only when there is a partition board in the slot where a full-width compute node is to be installed.

        1. Press and hold down the hole and push the partition board inwards. See (1) and (2) in Figure 6-13.
        2. Move the partition board rightwards and remove it. See (3) and (4) in

          Figure 6-13

      2. Press the ejector release buttons on the full-width compute node. See (1) in Figure 6-14.

      3. Completely open the ejector levers on the full-width compute node. See (2) in

        Figure 6-14.

      4. Horizontally insert the full-width compute node into the chassis. See (3) in Figure 6-14.
      5. Close the ejector levers on the full-width compute node. See (4) in Figure 6-14.

  6. Power on the compute node.
  7. Check the HLY indicator status.

    If the HLY indicator is steady green, the compute node is operating properly.
