Adding Components of Compute Nodes

Add the components of E9000 compute nodes, including CPUs, DIMMs, hard disks, and mezzanine cards.

Ensure that service data of compute nodes has been backed up before the compute nodes are powered off.

Procedure

  1. Determine the types and quantities of the components to be added.

  2. Check the compatibility between the added components and live network components. For details, use the Intelligent Computing Compatibility Checker.

    • If yes, go to the next step.
    • If no, add the components that are of the same model or with the same BOM number as the existing components in the compute nodes based on the compatibility checker.

  3. Remove the compute nodes for which you want to add components. For details, see Replacing a Compute Node and Its Components.
  4. Install the components to be added. For details, see "Removing and Installing Components of the CHxxx" in the CHxxx Compute Node User Guide.

    NOTE:

    Note the following when adding hard disks:

    • Only the CH222 and CH222 V3 compute nodes support hard disk capacity expansion.
    • If the expansion hard disks need to be added to an existing RAID array, check the RAID controller card model. Only LSI SAS2208 and LSI SAS3108 support capacity expansion by adding hard disks. For details, see the Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide.
    • Check the RAID controller card model. If the model is LSI SAS2208, configure RAID for the expansion hard disks by referring to the Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide.
    • After configuring a RAID array with multiple VDs or multiple RAID arrays, configure a RAID array or VD as the boot device. Otherwise, exceptions may occur during the OS installation. The configuration method varies with the RAID controller card model. For details, see the Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide.

    If mezzanine cards are added, the corresponding switch modules also need to be added. Contact Huawei technical support to determine the network configuration based on site requirements.

  5. Install the compute nodes. For details, see Replacing a Compute Node and Its Components.
  6. (Optional) After adding mezzanine cards, perform the following operations:

    • If stateless computing is enabled, check whether the original stateless computing policies contain the policy for new mezzanine cards.
      • If yes, you do no need to configure the mezzanine cards.
      • If no, reconfigure the mezzanine cards. For details, see "Configuring the MZxxx" in the MZxxx NIC User Guide.
    • If stateless computing is disabled, configure the mezzanine cards. For details, see "Configuring the MZxxx" in the MZxxx NIC User Guide.
