Replacing a Fan Module

After removing a fan module, install a new one.

  • The server supports a maximum of fourteen fan modules, The replacement method is the same. The following describes how to replace one fan module.
  • Only one fan module can be replaced at a time. After replacing a fan module, check the indicators on the newly installed fan module. Proceed with the next fan module only after ensuring that the newly installed one is in health status.

  1. Determine the fan module to be replaced.

    Figure 6-56 shows the slot numbers of the fan modules.

  2. Remove the fan module.

    1. Hold down the latch on the inner side of the handle. See (1) in Figure 6-57.

    2. Horizontally pull out the fan module from the chassis. See (2) in Figure 6-57.

      Each ESD bag should hold only one fan module.

    3. Place the removed fan module into an ESD bag.

  3. Install a new fan module.

    1. Align the fan module with the slot, and make sure that the indicators on the module are on the same side as those shown in the identifier on the air baffle.

    2. Horizontally insert the fan module into the chassis until the fan module snaps into the chassis, as shown in Figure 6-59.

  4. Check the indicator status.
