Logging In to the MM910 U-Boot

This topic describes how to log in to the MM910 U-Boot over a serial port to debug the MM910.

Scenarios

Log in to the MM910 U-Boot over a serial port.

The U-Boot is used to initialize hardware, such as serial ports and dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs), read the kernel image from the flash memory to the random access memory (RAM), and start the OS. You can load bottom-layer software and debug bottom-layer devices on the U-Boot user interface (UI).

Prerequisites

Conditions

None.

Data

  • User name and password for logging in to the MM910
  • Password for logging in to the MM910 U-Boot

Software

PuTTY 0.60 or later

Procedure

  1. Connect the RS232 serial port on the PC to the COM port on the active MM910 through a DB9-RJ45 cable.
  2. Use PuTTY to log in to the MM910 command-line interface (CLI).

    Set the login parameters as follows:

    • Serial Line to connect to: COMn

      n indicates the serial port number.

    • Speed (baud): 115200
    • Data bits: 8
    • Stop bits: 1
    • Parity: None
    • Flow control: None

  3. Restart the MM910.

    reboot

    The following information is displayed:

    This command will reboot SMM board. Continue? [Y/N]:
  4. Type Y and press Enter.

    The MM910 restarts.

  5. Press Ctrl+B when the message "Type 'ctrl+b' to enter uboot before os load during uboot start" is displayed.

    The following information is displayed:

    Net: eTSEC1(Marvell 88E1512), eTSEC2(SGMII), eTSEC3(SGMII) 
     
    Enter password:
  6. Enter the password for logging in to the U-Boot.

    The default password is Huawei12#$.

    The U-Boot menu is displayed.

    '6' -----load cramfs from tftp server and save them to flash 
    '7' -----load uboot over serial(xmodem) and save it to flash 
    '8' -----load cramfs over serial(xmodem) and save it to flash 
    '9' -----load uboot from tftp server and save them to flash 
    'a' -----enter command console 
    'b' -----show this menu 
    'c' -----load app over serial(xmodem) and save it to flash 
    'd' -----load app from tftp server and save it to flash 
    'e' -----load uboot over serial(xmodem) and save it to bak flash. 
    'f' -----change uboot password.
