Figure 2-6 shows the logical architecture of the MM910.

The MM910 has four logical modules:

  • CPU small-system module

    The CPU small-system module processes all services of the chassis management software and provides external USB and COM ports.

    This module has three internal network ports:

    • Eth0: connects to the MGMT port on the MM910 and switch modules over the LAN switch and maps to the static IP address (eth0) and floating IP address (eth0:0) of the MM910.
    • Eth1: connects to the other MM910 in the same chassis over the midplane and is used to synchronize data between the active and standby MM910s.
    • Eth2: connects to the midplane over the LAN switch to communicate with the baseboard management controller (BMC) of each component.
  • Field programmable gate array (FPGA) control module

    The FPGA control module provides:

    • Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) channels to communicate with the power and fan modules.
    • An RS485 communication channel
    • A video graphics array (VGA) port for implementing the KVM function.
  • Complex programmable logical device (CPLD) control module

    The CPLD control module performs the following functions:

    • Controls switchovers between the active and standby MM910s
    • Controls indicator states.
    • Monitors power supply unit (PSU) operating status.
    • Detects the installation status of each component in the chassis.
  • LAN switch device management module

    The LAN switch device management module connects to the BMC of each component over the midplane to forward service packets to the BMCs, switching plane, and external management network.
