Removing a DIMM and an Air Duct

You need to remove a dual-inline memory module (DIMM) before replacing it with a new one.


Remove a DIMM in any of the following scenarios:

  • The DIMM is faulty.
  • The DIMM needs to be replaced by a newer model.




Data preparation is not required for this operation.


  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) gloves.
  • Packing materials, for example, ESD bag.


  1. Lift both sides of the air duct, as shown in Figure 5-33.

  2. Open the two fixing clips of the DIMM slot at the same time. See step (1) in Figure 5-34.

  3. Remove the DIMM from the slot. See step (2) in Figure 5-34.
  4. Place the removed DIMM in an ESD bag.
  5. (Optional) Install a protective cover in the DIMM slot if you do not want to install a DIMM immediately.
