Changing the Initial User Password


Change the initial password of the FCoE gateway upon the first login to the CX311. This improves system operation and maintenance (O&M) security.

  • The password complexity check is enabled by default.
  • Use passwords that meet complexity requirements.
  • For security purposes, change the initial password upon the first login, and then change the password periodically.

A user who logs in to the FCoE gateway over a serial port, Telnet, or Secure Shell (SSH) has all rights of the FCoE gateway.


The Telnet functions on the FCoE gateway are disabled by default. After the Telnet functions are enabled, you can use the default user account to log in to the FCoE gateway over Telnet.


  1. Log in to the FCoE gateway CLI.
  2. Run the following command on the FCoE gateway CLI to go to the screen for changing the password of user admin for the FCoE gateway:

    FCoE_GW: admin>passwd admin

    The command output is as follows:

    Press 'q' and the ENTER key to abort this command. 
    account OLD password :

  3. Enter the old password.

    The command output is as follows:

    account NEW password (8-20 chars) :

  4. Enter a new password.

    The password must contain 8 to 20 characters.

    The command output is as follows:

    please confirm account NEW password:

  5. Enter the new password again.

    If the following information is displayed, the user name and password are successfully changed:

    password has been changed.
