Ports

The CX311 provides ports for users to operate and configure. The ports are used to send and receive data.

The CX311 Ethernet ports are numbered in Slot number/Subcard number/Port number format.

  • Slot number: indicates the slot number of the current switch module. Its value ranges from 1 to 4, from left to right mapping to slot numbers 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E.
  • Subcard number: indicates the number of a subcard supported by switching service ports. The value ranges from 1 to 20.
  • Port number: indicates the sequence number of a port on a subcard.

For details about subcard numbers and port numbers, see Table 2-3 and Table 2-4.

For example, if the CX311 is in slot 2X, the first GE port on the upper right on the panel is numbered 10GE 2/17/16, as shown in Figure 2-5.

The numbers of the FC optical ports on the CX311 are Ext1:0 to Ext8:7, which map to ports 1 to 8 for FC optical ports on the panel, as shown in Figure 2-5.

The serial ports include the baseboard management controller (BMC) serial port and the SYS serial port. These ports comply with RS232, and do not have an indicator.

  • BMC serial port: Used to log in to the BMC command-line interface (CLI).
  • SYS serial port: Used to manage, maintain, and commission the converged switching plane and FCoE gateway.

    The SYS serial port connects to the converged switching plane by default. You can run systemcom to switch the plane on the BMC CLI.

The BMC serial port and the serial port of the converged switching plane support a baud rate of 115,200 bit/s.

The serial port of the FCoE gateway supports a baud rate of 9,600 bit/s.

The value ranges from 1 to 16.

The ports are numbered from 1 in ascending order from left to right and then from bottom to top.

The sixteen ports higher up on the panel are used to exchange data with an external network.

Two indicators are provided for each port. The orange indicator is the data transmission status indicator, and the green indicator is the connectivity status indicator.

Two GE ports connect to two MM910s respectively. They are used to communicate with eth0 and eth2 in the MM910.

If the CX311 is in slot 2X, the ports are numbered GE 2/19/1 and GE 2/19/2.

If the CX311 is in slot 2X, the ports are numbered 10GE 2/20/1 to 10GE 2/20/8.
