Configuring Zones

Configuring Zones

Scenarios

Zone configuration is required only when a network requires isolated nodes for security purposes. In this way, access permission to different devices that are connected to the same switch is configured.

  • Zone set
    • A zone set contains a group of zones.
    • Multiple zone sets can be configured. However, only one zone set is active.
  • Zone
    • A zone is a set of ports or devices that can communicate with each other.
    • Devices in a zone can communicate only with the other devices in the same zone.
    • A device can belong to multiple zones.
  • Members

Devices in a zone can be identified by device WWPNs.

NOTE:
  • The FCoE gateway supports zone configuration only when working in Full Fabric mode.
  • Do not configure zones based on port numbers in the CX311. Otherwise, the configuration fails after the CX311 restarts. Configure zones based on WWPNs.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the FCoE gateway CLI.
  2. Run the show ns command to obtain WWPNs of devices for zone configuration. For details, see Viewing Port Connection Status.
  3. Configure zones.

    1. Open the zone editing mode.

      FCoE_GW: admin>admin start

      FCoE_GW (admin): admin>zoning edit

    2. Create a zone.

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zone create [zone name]

For example, create a zone named zone_01 by running the following command:

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zone create zone_01
    3. Add members to the zone.

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zone add [zone name] [member1] [member2] …

Create zones based on the device WWPNs. For example, add devices with the WWPNs 20:18:32:33:33:34:35:36 and 10:00:e4:68:a3:57:1a:2f to zone_01 by running the following command:

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zone add zone_01 20:18:32:33:33:34:35:36 10:00:e4:68:a3:57:1a:2f
    4. Create a zone set.

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zoneset create [zoneset name]

For example, create a zone set named zoneset_01 by running the following command:

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zoneset create zoneset_01
    5. Add members to the zone set.

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zoneset add [zoneset name] [zone name 1] [zone name 2] …

For example, add zone_01 created in 2. to zoneset_01 created in 4. by running the following command:

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zoneset add zoneset_01 zone_01
    6. Save the configuration.

      FCoE_GW (admin-zoning): admin>zoning save

    7. Activate the zone set.

FCoE_GW (admin): admin>zoneset activate [zoneset name]

For example, activate zoneset_01 created in 4. by running the following command:

      FCoE_GW (admin): admin>zoneset activate zoneset_01
    8. View zone configurations.
      FCoE_GW (admin): admin> zoning list
