Using the Local KVM Connected to the MM910

Using the Local KVM Connected to the MM910

Scenarios

Use the local KVM to perform any of the following operations:

  • Log in to the MM910 CLI.
  • Log in to the OS of a compute node.
  • Mount the DVD drive to a compute node.
  • Access a compute node or switch module over serial over LAN (SOL).

The local KVM function of the MM910 has the following restrictions:

  • The CLI does not support text editor.
  • The login to the system serial port of the compute node over SOL by using the local KVM is supported.
NOTE:

Once you have accessed the active or standby MM910 CLI or SOL screen (shown in Figure 6-6) and the timeout timer has not expired, you can access the MM910 without entering the user name and password again. For security purposes, run the exit command to exit the CLI when you do not need to use the KVM.

Prerequisites

Data

  • User name and password for logging in to the MM910
  • User name and password for logging in to the compute node or switch module

Procedure

  1. Log in to the MM910 CLI.
  2. Connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB ports of the MM910.
  3. Use a VGA cable to connect the monitor to the VGA port of the MM910.

The main screen is displayed, as shown in Figure 6-6.

    On the main screen:

    • Press , , , or to select , and press Enter to enter the OS of the compute node in the specified slot.
    • Press , , , or to select , and press Enter to mount the DVD drive of the MM910 to the compute node in the specified slot. The DVD drive color of the MM910 represents the status of the connection to the compute node.
      • indicates that the DVD drive is mounted to the compute node.
      • indicates that the DVD drive is open.
      • indicates that data is being accessed.

  4. Perform operations on the menu as prompted. For example, press Ctrl+S.

Go to the SOL CLI. The following information is displayed:

    *=====================================================================*
    * Welcome to SMM SOL Server *
    * Please log in with SMM account and password. *

    Please input your choice:

The sequence numbers in the preceding information are described as follows:

    • 1–32 indicate the compute nodes in slots 1 to 32 respectively.
    • 33–36 indicate the switch modules in slots 1E, 2X, 3X, and 4E respectively.

  6. Enter the slot number of the compute node or switch module to be connected. For example, enter 34 and press Enter.

All serial ports on the switch module to be connected are displayed as follows:

    Please input your choice:34
