This document describes the CX913 10GE switch module (CX913 for short) of the Tecal E9000 server in terms of its features, installation, removal, and configuration. This document applies to the CX913 whose 10GE switching planes use the software versions of 1.2.1.0.39, 2.00 and later.

CPU

The CX913 uses two quad-core CPUs to manage the 10GE switch module respectively at a maximum of 1.5 GHz.

  • Provides one serial gigabit media independent port (SGMII) connecting to the baseboard management controller (BMC) to act as a management channel.
  • Provides the 10GE switch module with one PCIe x2 slot to configure and manage the switch chip.
  • Provides one serial port for debugging.

Onboard GE switch module

The onboard GE switch module provides four external GE ports on the panel for service management or chassis cascading. The internal ports are reserved and cannot be used currently.

10GE switch module

The 10GE switch module is the primary functional module on the CX913 and is used to forward service packets. It provides fifty-six 10GE ports and two 40GE ports as follows:

  • Forty internal 10GE ports: three 10GE ports for each half-width slot in positions Slot01 to Slot08 and two 10GE ports for each half-width slot in positions Slot09 to Slot16
  • Two internal 40GE ports for interconnecting two 10GE switch modules
  • 16 external 10GE ports for connecting to the SFP+ optical modules or direct attached cables (DACs) to provide service ports for switch modules and for connecting to external switch modules or other network devices

Heat sink

Cools CPUs. Each CPU is configured with one heat sink.

Midplane signal connector

Exchanges data between the CX913 and the midplane.

Midplane power connector

Supplies 12 V DC power for the CX913.

FC pass through mezz module

The FC pass through mezz module is a mezzanine module on the CX913. It provides the following ports:

  • Eight external 8G FC optical ports on the panel for connecting to FC storage devices or FC switches
  • One inter-integrated circuit (I2C) port for connecting the local BMC to the FC pass through mezz module to read information from the module
  • The FC pass through module connects to a mezzanine module on one of compute nodes in slots 1 to 16 of the CX913. The eight FC ports connect to a mezzanine module on one of compute nodes in slots 1 to 8 by default.
