Connecting the Ground Cable to the Cabinet/Rack


The switch must be grounded before it is powered on. This protects the switch from lightning, electromagnetic interference, and electrostatic charges.

The M6 lug (the end with a larger hole) of the ground cable can be connected to a ground point on the cabinet/rack or a ground bar, depending on the situations in the installation site.

If a CE6850-48S6Q-HI, CE6850U-48S6Q-HI, CE6850-48T6Q-HI, CE6855-48T6Q-HI, CE6856-48T6Q-HI, CE6857-48S6CQ-EI, CE6850U-HI, CE6875-48S4CQ-EI, CE8850-64CQ-EI, CE8860-4C-EI, CE8861-4C-EI, or CE8868-4C-EI is installed in the cabinet/rack without connecting the ground cable, connect the ground cable to the switch and then to the cabinet/rack.

If a cabinet/rack has a protective coating, remove this coating from around the ground point to ensure a reliable connection.

Tools and Accessories

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • M6 screw
  • Multimeter


  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. Ensure that the ESD wrist strap is grounded and in close contact with your wrist.
  2. Take off the ground cable coiled on the top of the switch.
  3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure the M6 lug of the ground cable to the ground point with an M6 screw. Tighten the M6 screw with a torque of 4.8 N m.

Follow-up Procedure

After the ground cable is connected, verify that the electrical resistance between the ground terminal and ground point is less than 0.1 ohm on a multimeter.
