Connecting the Ground Cable to the Switch

Context

The ground point of the CE8800, CE7800, CE6800, and CE5800 series switches (except the CE6850-48S6Q-HI, CE6850U-48S6Q-HI, CE6850-48T6Q-HI, CE6855-48T6Q-HI, CE6856-48T6Q-HI, CE6857-48S6CQ-EI, CE6850U-24S2Q-HI, CE6875-48S4CQ-EI, CE8850-64CQ-EI, CE8860-4C-EI, CE8861-4C-EI, and CE8868-4C-EI) is located at a side of the chassis, and a ground cable cannot be connected when the switches are in a cabinet/rack. Therefore, connect the ground cable to a switch before cabinet/rack-mounting the switch.

The ground point of the CE6850-48S6Q-HI, CE6850U-48S6Q-HI, CE6850-48T6Q-HI, CE6855-48T6Q-HI, CE6856-48T6Q-HI, CE6857-48S6CQ-EI, CE6850U-24S2Q-HI, CE6875-48S4CQ-EI, CE8850-64CQ-EI, CE8860-4C-EI, CE8861-4C-EI, or CE8868-4C-EI switch is located at the front (power supply side) of the chassis. You can connect the ground cable to the switch before or after installing the switch in a cabinet/rack.

Tools and Accessories

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Ground cable
NOTE:

The ground cable is included in the installation accessory package.

Tighten the M6 screw with a torque of 4.8 N•m.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. Ensure that the ESD wrist strap is grounded and in close contact with your wrist.
  2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the ground screw from the ground point on the switch.

    Ground point on one side:

    Ground point on the power supply side:

  3. Fix the M4 lug (with a smaller hole) of the ground cable to the ground point on the switch with the ground screw you removed in step 2, and use the Phillips screwdriver to fasten the ground screw.

  4. Coil the ground cable on the top of the switch.
