Example for Deleting the Console Port Password Using BIOS/BootLoader

Applicable Products and Versions

This example applies to CE series switches running V200R005C10 and earlier versions.

Networking Requirements

If you forget the console port password and fail to log in to the device, you can delete the console port password using BIOS/BootLoader.

As shown in Figure 2-3, the device connects to the PC.

Figure 2-3 Networking for using BIOS/BootLoader to delete the console port password

Precautions

When using BIOS/BootLoader to delete the console port password, pay attention to the following points:

  • The Mini USB/Micro USB port and console port provide the same functions, so the Mini USB/Micro USB port can be used in this example. When using the Mini USB/Micro USB port, you need to install the driver of the Mini USB/Micro USB port on the PC and use the Mini USB/Micro USB cable to connect the device to the PC.

  • The CE12800 is used as an example. On the CE8800, 7800, 6800, and 5800, connect devices according to actual interfaces.

  • After the console port password is deleted using BIOS/BootLoader, authentication is not required for login through the console port. This configuration is valid only for the device that starts up currently. When the device starts up again, authentication is still required for login through the console port. After the console port password is deleted using BIOS, change the console port password immediately and save the configuration.

The procedure of upgrading the system software using BootLoader is similar to that using BIOS. In this example, the BIOS menu is used to upgrade the system software on a switch running V200R001C00.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

  1. Log in to the device through the console port, and restart the device to enter the BIOS menu.
  2. Select the option of modifying the console port password. After the console port password is deleted, continue to start the device.
  3. After the device is started, modify the console port password. To prevent configuration loss after restart, save the device configuration.
