This example applies to all models and all versions.

Networking Requirements

As shown in Figure 2-66, SwitchA is located between the Layer 2 network and the Layer 3 router to prevent the storms caused by broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast packets sent from users on the Layer 2 network.

NOTE:

The traffic suppression and storm control functions cannot be configured on the same interface.

Procedure

  1. Enter the interface view.

  2. Configure storm control for broadcast packets.

    • In V100R002C00 and earlier versions, when the average rate of broadcast packets within the detection period is higher than 2000 pps, the interface performs storm control.

    • In the versions from V100R002C00SPC100 to V100R005C10, when the average rate of broadcast packets within the detection period is higher than 2000 pps, the interface performs storm control.

  3. Configure storm control for multicast packets.

    • In V100R002C00 and earlier versions, when the average rate of multicast packets within the detection period is higher than 2000 pps, the interface performs storm control.

  5. Configure the device to shut down the interface when detecting a storm. When the average rate of broadcast, multicast, or unknown unicast packets within the detection period exceeds the threshold, the device shuts down the interface.

    NOTE:

    By default, an interface can only be manually recovered by the administrator after being shut down. To configure the interface to recover to the Up state automatically, run the error-down auto-recovery cause storm-control interval interval-value command to set a recovery delay. After the delay, the interface goes Up automatically.

    • V100R002C00 and earlier versions

  6. Configure the device to record a log when detecting a storm.

  7. Set the interval for detecting storms to 90 seconds.
