Runtime Error Logging

This topic describes how to configure the runtime error logging function on the Runtime Error Logging screen.

On the Runtime Error Logging screen, you can configure the runtime error logging function, including system error recording, QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) virus recording, system memory poison recording, and platform controller hub (PCH) error configuration. Table 5-42 describes the parameters on the Runtime Error Logging screen of Haswell.Figure 5-40 shows the screen.

Indicates whether to enable the function for recording system errors. If this function is enabled, errors can be corrected, and uncorrectable errors are reported to the operating system (OS) and Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) respectively. The options are as follows:

EMCA Logging Support

Indicates whether to enable the Enhanced Machine Check Architecture (EMCA) logging function. The options are as follows:

  • Enable: After this parameter is set to Enable, an area in the memory is assigned to store mcbank register information and incorrect dual in-line memory module (DIMM) information for the OS to access. Moreover, an uncorrectable error can trigger the system management interrupt (SMI).
  • Disable

EMCA MCE-SMI enable

Indicates whether to enable the EMCA MCE-SMI function. The options are as follows:

  • Disable
  • EMCA gen1 Dual Mode: enables the EMCA gen1 Dual Mode function. Irrevocable errors trigger SMI interruption after the EMCA gen1 Dual Mode function is enabled. (This option is unavailable for the Haswell CPU.)
  • EMCA gen2 - MSMI: enables the EMCA gen2 - MSMI function. Irrevocable errors trigger SMI interruption after the EMCA gen2 - MSMI function is enabled. (This option is unavailable for the IvyBridge CPU.)

This parameter is dimmed and not configurable in the BIOS.

EMCA CMCI-SMI Morphing

Indicates whether to enable EMCA CMCI-SMI Morphing. The options are as follows:

  • Enable: The SMI is triggered each time a correctable error occurs. If the number of correctable errors on the MCbank exceeds the upper limit, the SMI is also triggered, but the Corrected Machine Check Interrupt (CMCI) is not.
  • Disable

This parameter is dimmed and not configurable in the BIOS.

Indicates whether to enable the memory warning function. The options are as follows:
