Removing a DIMM
You need to remove a dual-inline memory module (DIMM) before replacing it with a new one.
Scenarios
Remove a DIMM in any of the following scenarios:
- The DIMM is faulty.
- The DIMM needs to be replaced by a newer model.
A child compute node supports a maximum of eight dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs). Figure 5-29 shows the DIMM positions, and Figure 2-8 shows the DIMM numbers.
Prerequisites
Conditions
- Refer to Safety Instructions.
- If a compute node is installed in the E9000 chassis, remove the compute node and then its child compute nodes by referring to Removing a CH140 and Removing a Child Compute Node.
- Place the compute node carefully on an electrostatic discharge (ESD) floor.
Data
Data preparation is not required for this operation.
Tools
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) gloves.
- Packing materials, for example, ESD bags.
Procedure
- Open the two fixing clips of the DIMM slot at the same time. See step (1) in Figure 5-30.
- Remove the DIMM from the slot. See step (2) in Figure 5-30.
- Place the removed DIMM in an ESD bag.
