Installing a DIMM

The following describe the rules for installing DIMMs:

  • The RH5885 V3 provides 48 slots for installing double data rate 3 (DDR3) DIMMs. Each CPU integrates 16 memory channels: 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D. Table 5-7 lists the composition of each memory channel.

  1. Power off the server. For details, see Powering On and Off the RH5885 V3. Remove all power cables.
  2. Remove the chassis cover of the RH5885 V3. For details, see Removing the Chassis Cover.
  3. Remove the air duct of the RH5885 V3. For details, see Removing the Air Duct.
  4. Remove the beam that blocks the DIMM. For details, see Removing the Beam.
  5. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. For details, see Safety Instructions.
  6. Take the spare DIMM out of the ESD bag.
  7. Open the two fixing clips of the DIMM slot. See Figure 5-77.

  8. Align the DIMM with the DIMM slot, and insert the DIMM into the slot. See Figure 5-78.

    The two fixing clips close automatically.
