Connecting a Serial Cable

The rear panel of the server provides a standard DB9 serial port (three-pin serial port), which works as the system serial port by default. You can set it as the iBMC serial port using the iBMC CLI.

The serial port can be used in the following scenarios:

  • Used as the system serial port to monitor the status of the operating system (OS).
  • Used as the iBMC serial port for debugging and fault locating.


  1. Align the connector on the serial cable with the serial port, and insert the connector into the serial port, as shown in Figure 3-24.

    Do not exert excessive force; otherwise, the pins in the serial port may be damaged.

  2. Tighten the screws on the connector to secure the serial cable.
