Installing the Mainboard

  1. Remove the existing mainboard. For details, see Removing the Mainboard.
  2. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. For details, see Safety Instructions.
  3. Take the spare mainboard out of its ESD bag.
  4. Place the mainboard in the correct position by holding its handle. See step (1) in Figure 5-80.

  5. Push the mainboard in the arrow direction. See step (2) in Figure 5-80.
  6. Screw the mainboard using a Phillips screwdriver. See step (3) in Figure 5-80.
  7. (Optional) Burn the original equipment serial number (ESN) into the new mainboard. Contact Huawei technical support to burn the original ESN into the new mainboard after replacement.

If original device ESN is not burnt in the new mainboard, the iBMC and OS cannot obtain the device ESN. This may affect the running of some services or the monitoring and management on the device.

  8. (Optional) Configure the server.

    • If the iBMC and BIOS configuration data is exported before the mainboard replacement, import the data to the server and configure the password. For details, see Import/Export in the Huawei Rack Server iBMC User Guide.
    • For details about the configuration items that support export and import in the iBMC and BIOS configuration files exported from the iBMC, see "Configuration File Description" in the Huawei Rack Server iBMC User Guide.
    • To upgrade the firmware (iBMC, BIOS, and CPLD) of the mainboard after replacement, see the Huawei Server Firmware Upgrade Guide.
    NOTE:

After the motherboard is replaced, the iBMC and BIOS configurations are restored to the factory defaults of the new mainboard. You need to configure the iBMC and BIOS again based on the actual situation. The default user name, password, and IP address of the server are listed in Default Data.
