Power off the server before you maintain, replace, or relocate it.

Impact on the System

Powering off the server interrupts the services and programs running on it.

Prerequisites

Conditions

All services and programs have been stopped or switched to other servers.

Data

  • All data has been backed up.
  • You have determined the cabinet number and installation position for the server to be powered off.
  • You have obtained the IP address, user name, and user password for the iMana 200 management network port.

Tools

Procedure

NOTE:
  • The "power-off" mentioned here is an operation performed to change the server to the standby state (the power indicator is steady yellow).
  • After a server is powered off forcibly, wait for more than 10 seconds for the server to power off completely. Do not power on the server again before it is completely powered off.
  • Forced power-off may damage user programs or unsaved data. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

The methods for powering off the server are as follows:

  • Connect a keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) to the server and shut down the operating system of the server using the KVM.
  • When the server is in power-on state, pressing the power button on the server front panel can power off the server gracefully.
    NOTE:

    If the server OS is running, shut down the OS according to the onscreen instructions.

  • When the server is in power-on state, holding down the power button on the server front panel for six seconds can power off the server forcibly.

    If you use this method to power off and then on a server when a fault occurs, some information may be missing in the fdm_log file that records information collected through the one-click information collection function of the management software. Avoid using this method to power off and then on a server when a fault occurs.

  • Remotely power off the server using the iMana 200 CLI.

    Run the ipmcset -d powerstate -v 0 command on the iMana 200 CLI.

  • Remotely power off the server using the iMana 200 WebUI.

    Log in to the iMana 200 WebUI, choose PS Management > Power Control, and click Power Off and then OK.
