Checking Indicators to Locate Faults

You can check indicators to locate faults. For details about the positions of the indicators, see the "Appearance" section in the user guide of the specific server.

Process

Figure 3-8 shows the process for checking the indicators.

  1. Observe the status indicators of the servers.

    The server is operating properly.

    Blinking red

    A fault alarm is generated.

    1. Log in to the iBMC WebUI to view the alarm information.
    2. (Optional) View the error code on the fault diagnosis LED located on the front panel.

    Power indicator (PWR)

    Steady green

    The server is powered on.

    N/A

    Blinking yellow

    The iBMC management system is being started. In this case, you cannot power on or off the server by pressing the power button.

    Steady yellow

    The server is ready to power on.

    Press the power button to power on the server. If the server cannot be powered on, log in to the iBMC WebUI and view the alarm to rectify the fault.

    Off

    The server is not connected to a power source.

    1. If the iBMC WebUI is accessible, log in and check for any alarms.
    2. If the iBMC WebUI is inaccessible, check whether the power supply to the server is normal and whether the power supply units (PSUs) are normal.

    UID indicator

    Steady blue

    The server is being located.

    NOTE:

    The UID indicator is located on the UID button. The UID indicator displays a steady blue light to help identify and locate a server. To turn on or off the UID indicator, you can manually press the UID button or run commands on the iBMC CLI.

    To reset iMana 200 or iBMC, hold down the UID button for 4 to 6 seconds.

    Off

    The server is not being located or is not connected to a power source.

  2. View iBMC system event logs (SELs) to locate faults.
  3. Observe indicators on server components.

    The network connectivity is normal.

    1. Connect the network port to another switch, optical cable, and optical module to determine whether the switch and optical cable are functioning correctly and whether the optical module is of the correct type and speed.
    2. Check the NIC status in the OS.
    3. Check whether the ports on the switch and NIC are up.

    Data transmission status indicator for the management network port

    Blinking yellow

    Data is being transmitted.

    No data is being transmitted.

    Connectivity status indicator for the management network port

    Steady green

    The network connectivity is normal.

    The network port is not connected.

    1. Connect the network port to another switch and to another network cable to determine whether the switch and network cable are functioning correctly.
    2. Check whether the NIC is properly operating.
