Accessing the CLI of the Management Software

Accessing the CLI of the Management Software

This topic describes how to access the CLI of the management software.

Prerequisites

You should follow the information before logging in to the CLI.

  • If accessing the CLI over SSH or Telnet, up to five concurrent users are supported.
  • To open the CLI over the network port, you must connect the network interface of the configuration terminal to the network interface of the server by using a network cable, and ensure that the IP addresses of the two network interfaces are on the same network segment.
NOTE:

Do not connect two management ports at the same time, as you can log in to iBMC by using only one management port.

  • To open the CLI over the serial port, you must connect the serial port of the configuration terminal to the serial port of the server by using a serial cable.

The rack server provides the adaptive management network interface of 1000 Mbit/s on the rear panel of the chassis. You can connect the network interface by using a network cable

Login Modes

  • SSH
  • Telnet
  • Local serial port
NOTE:
  • The default user name of iBMC is root, and the default password is on the product nameplate.
  • The system locks a user if the user fails to enter a correct password for consecutive five times. The user is automatically unlocked five minutes later, and the administrator user can run the ipmcset -t user -d unlock -v username command on the CLI to unlock the user.
  • To ensure system security, change the initial password after the first login, and then change your password periodically.

Logging In over SSH

The SSH protocol is used to provide the secure remote login and other network services on an insecure network.

To open the CLI over the SSH protocol in different OSs, perform the following operations:

  • In the Linux OS
    1. Connect the network interface of the configuration terminal to the management interface of the server.
    2. Run the ssh ipaddress command in the shell to log in directly.
  • In the Windows OS
    1. Download and install the client communications tool that supports the SSH protocol.
    2. Connect the network interface of the configuration terminal to the management interface of the server.
    3. Log in by using the user name, password, and IP address of the management network interface.

Logging In over Telnet

To log in to iBMC over Telnet is insecure. By default, iBMC does not support Telnet login. If you need to log in to iBMC over Telnet, enable the Telnet service on the web user interface (WebUI) of iBMC.

To open the CLI over the Telnet protocol in different OSs, perform the following operations:

  • In the Linux OS
    1. Connect the network interface of the configuration terminal to the management interface of the server.
    2. Run the telnet ipaddress command in the shell to log in directly.
  • In the Windows OS
    1. Connect the network interface of the configuration terminal to the management interface of the server.
    2. Run the telnet ipaddress command in the terminal tool to log in directly.

Logging In over the Serial Port

  • Before logging in to the iBMC CLI over the serial port, ensure that the system serial port of the chassis is switched to the iBMC serial port. To switch between serial ports, log in to the CLI over SSH or Telnet and run the serialdir command, or use a jumper by referring to the server product documentation.
  • Log in to iBMC of the rack servers by using the serial port.
  • Log in to iBMC of the E9000 server by using the serial port of the high-density LPU.
  • Log in to iBMC of the X6000 and X6800 servers by using the converged management network port.
  1. Connect the serial cable.
  2. Access the CLI using HyperTerminal and set the following parameters:

    • Baud rate: 115200
    • Data bits: 8
    • Parity check: none
    • Stop bit: 1
    • Flow control: none

For details on how to set the parameters, see Figure 4-229.

    Figure 4-229 HyperTerminal properties

  3. After the call succeeds, enter the user name and password.
