Common Problems of the Management Software

BH620 V2 Power-on Timeout Alarm
Problem Description
Table 5-245 Basic information

Item

Information

Source of the Problem

BH620 V2

Intended Product

BH620 and BH621 V2 server blades

Release Date

2013-06-13

Keyword

PwrOn TimeOut

Symptom

Software version

BMC 3.56, BIOS V110, CPLD 013, and FPGA (018)

Symptom

The BH620 V2 cannot be powered on. After the BH620 V2 is removed and then installed, it can be powered on successfully. After the user logs in to the BMC WebUI of the BH620 V2 and chooses System Event Log, the alarm "PwrOn TimeOut" is displayed and cannot be cleared.

Key Process and Cause Analysis

There is a low probability that the BH620 V2 cannot be powered on after the CPLD of a version earlier than 013 is powered off unexpectedly. The BH620 V2 can be powered on successfully after it is removed and then installed but the alarm in the BMC cannot be cleared.

Conclusion and Solution

The alarm has no adverse impact.

Workaround: Restart the BMC.

Solution: Upgrade the CPLD to 016 or later. For details, see the HUAWEI Server Firmware Upgrade Guide.

Failed to Identify the iMana 200 Virtual DVD-ROM Drive For ISO Image Mounting
Problem Description

None

Symptom

Symptom

A client uses the iMana virtual DVD-ROM drive to mount an ISO image. The virtual DVD-ROM drive option is not displayed when F11 is pressed upon board startup.

Key Process and Cause Analysis

Cause analysis

  1. Operation problem: The actual operation sequence is as follows: restart the board, mount the ISO image, and press F11 (this operation sequence is incorrect). The correct operation sequence is as follows: mount the ISO image, restart the board, and press F11.
  2. BIOS setting: If the board is configured with an external USB DVD-ROM drive, check the virtual DVD-ROM drive and physical DVD-ROM drive sequence in the Boot options. If the board is not configured with an external USB DVD-ROM drive, ignore this step. (For R1 servers, check whether CD- or DVD-ROM drive is disabled for BIOS.)
  3. Network problem: The VMM 8208 port is disabled, and the image file cannot be transferred.
  4. ISO image problem: The ISO image is not bootable or is damaged.
  5. iMana software problem: Reset or update the iMana software.
    NOTE:

The iMana software used by R1 servers is of version 1.18 or earlier and cannot support virtual media well.

  6. The mainboard USB bus is faulty, and the mainboard needs to be replaced.
NOTE:

R1 BH620 blade servers that use PCB of the version .B do not support virtual media.

NOTE:

The preceding steps 3–5 apply to scenarios where the OS has been installed but the ISO image mounted cannot be detected. The only difference is that the image can be bootable or non-bootable.

iBMC V2 Cannot Be Accessed After the Password Is Changed Using BIOS
Problem Description
Table 5-246 Basic information

Item

Information

Source of the Problem

iBMC

Intended Product

Servers using the iBMC

Release Date

2015-08-11

Keyword

iBMC, BIOS

Symptom

Symptom:

After the iBMC password is changed using BIOS, the iBMC cannot be accessed using the new password.

Key Process and Cause Analysis

Cause analysis:

The user management function is reserved on the WebUI of iBMC V2. When the function is disabled, the iBMC password cannot be changed on the BIOS or OS (for example, using the IPMItool mode).

Conclusion and Solution

Solution:

Enable the user management function. On the iBMC WebUI, choose Configuration > System and set OS User Management to ON. The function is enabled by default. If the iBMC password is lost after the function is disabled, the password can be restored only by using the iBMC serial port.

Experience

Memory leakage occurs in the iBMC earlier than V2 1.51, which may also result in this problem.

BH620, NX120 fiber channel (FC) switch, and Huawei Symantec S5500 FC storage

Software configuration

Windows Server 2003 enterprise edition R2 X86_32 and Huawei Symantec multi-path software UltraPath-01.01.17T01.win2k3.x86

Symptom

When BH620 and S5500 constitute a multi-path environment for Windows Server 2003 SAN, the error message "DocPath is incorrect, Copy docs failed!" is displayed during UltraPath (UP for short) installation, as shown in Figure 5-313.

Figure 5-313 Error message during UP installation

The UP is reported of successful installation. No exception exists during UP function and performance test.

Key Process and Cause Analysis

Key process

The following figure shows the complete installation package for UP.

During file installation, obtain Help from Docs, and install Help in the system. Only the executable UP file is copied without the Docs file. The system prompts that Docs cannot be copied during UP installation. The UP functions are not affected, and only Help is not installed.

Conclusion and Solution
