BIOS Main Menu

Connect to a device through the Console port or using SOL.
  • If the software version of the switching plane is earlier than 5.52, log in to the switching plane CLI through the serial port and then access the BIOS. There is no other way to access the BIOS. If the software version of the switching plane is 5.52 or later, log in to the switching plane CLI over SOL or serial port and then access the BIOS.
  • For the switching plane versions from 5.52 to 6.53 (excluding 6.53), if you access the switching plane CLI over SOL and then the BIOS, the operations such as changing the password and system upgrade through disk formatting cannot be performed on the BIOS. These operations are supported on the BIOS from switching plane version 6.53.
  • For details about how to log in to the device using the console port, see Logging In to the Device Through a Console Port.

Restart the device. Press Ctrl+B to enter the BIOS main menu when the following message is displayed. The following example shows information displayed on a CX91x series switch module 10GE switching plane. Information displayed on your device may be different.

Description

Press CTRL+B to enter BIOS menu

Press Ctrl+B within 3 seconds to access the BIOS menu.

You can access the BIOS menu for debugging after failing to access the CLI on the device.

Password

Password for accessing the BIOS menu. The default password is Huawei12#$.

If you enter incorrect passwords for three consecutive times, the system restarts.

To change the password, select 6. Modify BIOS password.

NOTE:

You can run the reset boot password command in the CLI to restore the default password of the BootROM main menu.

You are advised to modify the password in a timely manner and update the password periodically after login to prevent unauthorized users from entering the BIOS menu.

1. Continue to boot

Select this item when you want to quickly start the device.

This operation does not restart the BIOS, but continue to start the system.

2. Update from serial interface

Access the serial interface submenu to update the complex programmable logical device (CPLD).

This operation can be performed after a PC is connected to the device using the serial interface, without other configuration. However, the file transfer speed is low.

NOTE:

You are advertised to update the CPLD with the instructions of Huawei technical support engineers.

3. Update from ethernet interface

Access the Ethernet interface submenu to change the system software.

This operation features fast file transfer, but you must configure network parameters and Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server to ensure that the route between the device and TFTP server is reachable.

NOTE:

You are advertised to update the CPLD with the instructions of Huawei technical support engineers.

4. Modify startup parameters

Access the startup submenu to view or modify startup configuration.

5. File system

Access the file system submenu to view files in the file system.

6. Modify BIOS password

Access this submenu to change the password for accessing the BIOS menu, preventing unauthorized users from accessing the BIOS menu.

7. Modify console password

Access this submenu to change the password for logging in to the device through the console port, preventing login failure due to password loss.

Caution: A new console password must be set after the restart.

After you enter Y and press Enter when the preceding information is displayed, the device continues starting. After the device starts, authentication is not required when logging in to the device through the console port, but you need to change the console port password in time.

8. Rollback from VRPv8 to VRPv5

Access this submenu to roll back the switch module version from VRP V8 to VRP V5.
NOTE:

Only CX91x series switch module supports rollback from later version to earlier VRP version.

9. Reboot

After you select 9. Reboot, the BIOS restarts and the system continues to start. Selecting 9. Reboot is not recommended.

Shortcut key

The BIOS menu provides four shortcut keys: Ctrl+M, Ctrl+J. The two shortcut keys can be used in any BIOS menu to provide functions similar to Enter.
