To configure a device that is powered on for the first time, log in to the device through the console port or SOL.

The switch module provides a baseboard management controller (BMC) serial port and a SYS serial port. The ports comply with RS232.
  • BMC serial port: The port is used to log in to the BMC command-line interface (CLI).
  • SYS serial port: The port is used to manage, maintain, and debugswitching planes.

This topic describes how to perform local configuration for a device after connecting a terminal serial port directly to the device SYS serial port (console port), and logging in to the device. For details about how to log in to the device over SOL, see Logging In to the Device Through SOL.
