Configuration Task Summary

This section describes IGMP configuration tasks.

Table 8-20 lists IGMP configuration tasks.

Table 8-20 IGMP configuration tasks

Configure basic IGMP functions

To configure receiver hosts to join a multicast network and receive multicast data, you must configure basic IGMP functions on the switch modules interfaces connected to the receiver hosts.

Configuring Basic IGMP Functions

Optimize IGMP performance

After basic IGMP functions are configured on the multicast switch modules, the multicast switch modules can exchange IGMP messages with receiver hosts by default. You can optimize IGMP performance on the multicast switch modules according to requirements of network security and performance optimization.

Optimizing IGMP Performance

Configure IGMP SSM mapping

The Source-Specific Multicast (SSM) model allows IGMPv3 hosts to specify the multicast sources from which they want to receive data. In some cases, receiver hosts can run only IGMPv1 or IGMPv2. To allow these hosts to use SSM, you can configure IGMP SSM mapping on the multicast switch modules to provide the SSM service for IGMPv1 or IGMPv2 receiver hosts.
