Maintaining ARP

Maintaining ARP includes clearing ARP entries and monitoring ARP running status.

Clearing ARP Entries

Context

After ARP entries are cleared, mappings between IP addresses and MAC addresses are deleted. As a result, users may not access specified nodes. Exercise caution when you clear ARP entries.

Procedure

  • Run the reset arp { all | dynamic ip ip-address [ vpn-instance vpn-instance ] | interface interface-type interface-number [ ip ip-address ] | vpn-instance vpn-instance } command in user view to clear dynamic ARP entries in the ARP mapping table.
  • Run the reset arp l2-proxy user vlan vlan-id [ ip ip-address | interface interface-type interface-number ] command in user view to clear ARP snooping entries.
  • Run the reset arp fast-reply slot slot-id statistics command in user view to clear statistics on fast ARP Reply packets.
  • Run the reset arp packet statistics [ interface [ interface-type interface-number ] ] command in user view to clear ARP packet statistics.

Monitoring the ARP Running Status

Context

Monitoring the ARP running status includes checking ARP mapping entries, strict ARP entry learning, ARP packet statistics, ARP packet processing rate, and maximum number of ARP entries learnt by an interface.

Procedure

  • Run the display arp interface interface-type interface-number command in any view to check the ARP running status on a specified interface.
  • Run the display arp [ network network-address [ network-mask | mask-length ] ] [ dynamic | static ] command in any view to check the ARP running status of a specified slot.
  • Run the display arp vpn-instance vpn-instance-name [ dynamic | static ] command in any view to check ARP mapping entries of a specified VPN instance.
  • Run the display arp vlan vlan-id interface interface-type interface-number command in any view to check ARP mapping entries of a specified VLAN.
  • Run the display arp statistics [ interface interface-type interface-number ] command in any view to check ARP entry statistics.
  • Run the display arp track command in any view to check changes of outbound interfaces in ARP entries learned by a VLANIF interface.
  • Run the display arp packet statistics [ interface [ interface-type interface-number ] ] command in any view to check ARP packet statistics.
  • Run the display arp l2-proxy vlan vlan-id [ ip ip-address | conflict user ] command in any view to check Layer 2 ARP proxy entries of a specified VLAN.
  • Run the display arp fast-reply statistics [ interface interface-type interface-number | ip ip-address [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] ] command in any view to check statistics on fast ARP reply packets.
