Maintaining PIM-SM (IPv6)

This section describes how to maintain PIM-SM (IPv6), including clearing statistics about PIM (IPv6) control packets, clearing the PIM (IPv6) status of the specified downstream interfaces of PIM (IPv6) entries, and monitoring the running status of PIM-SM (IPv6).

Clearing Statistics About PIM (IPv6) Control Packets

Context

To recollect statistics about PIM (IPv6) control packets, clear the existing statistics. The statistics cannot be restored after you clear them. This operation does not affect normal running of PIM (IPv6).

Statistics about PIM (IPv6) control packets on an interface cannot be restored after you clear them. Exercise caution when clearing the statistics.

Procedure

  • To clear statistics about PIM (IPv6) control packets on an interface, run the reset pim ipv6 control-message counters [ interface interface-type interface-number ] command in the user view.
Clearing the PIM Status of the Specified Downstream Interfaces in PIM (IPv6) Entries

Context

You can clear the Join/Prune status and Assert status on the specified downstream interface in a PIM (IPv6) entry. MLD status and static groups on this interface are not affected.

Clearing the PIM status of downstream interfaces may trigger the sending of Join/Prune packets, which affects multicast services.

Procedure

  • To clear the PIM status of specified downstream interfaces in specified PIM (IPv6) entries, run the reset pim ipv6 routing-table group ipv6-group-address mask ipv6-group-mask-length source ipv6-source-address interface interface-type interface-number command in the user view.

    NOTE:

    You can also run the reset pim ipv6 routing-table all command in the user view to reset PIM (IPv6) status of downstream interfaces in all PIM (IPv6) routing entries.

Monitoring the Running Status of PIM (IPv6)

Context

During routine maintenance, you can run the following commands in any view to monitor the running status of PIM (IPv6).

Procedure

  • Run the display pim ipv6 bsr-info command to check information about the BSR in the PIM-SM (IPv6) domain.
  • Run the display pim ipv6 rp-info [ ipv6-group-address ] command to check information about RPs of the multicast group.
  • Run the display pim ipv6 claimed-route [ ipv6-source-address ] command to check unicast routes used by PIM (IPv6).
  • Run the following commands to check the number of sent and received PIM (IPv6) control packets.

    • display pim ipv6 control-message counters message-type { probe | register | register-stop | crp }

    • display pim ipv6 control-message counters [ message-type { assert | hello | join-prune | bsr } | interface interface-type interface-number ] *

  • Run the display pim ipv6 interface [ interface-type interface-number | up | down ] [ verbose ] command to check PIM (IPv6) information on an interface.
  • Run the display pim ipv6 neighbor [ ipv6-link-local-address | interface interface-type interface-number | verbose ] * command to check information about the PIM (IPv6) neighbor.
  • Run the following commands to check the PIM (IPv6) routing table.

  • Run the display pim ipv6 neighbor [ ipv6-link-local-address | interface interface-type interface-number | verbose ] * command to check PIM (IPv6) neighbor information.
