This section describes how to configure sFlow.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring sFlow, complete the following tasks:

  • Ensuring that there are reachable routes between the sFlow agent and the sFlow collector.

Configuring sFlow Agent and sFlow Collector Information

Context

An sFlow collector used as a destination of sFlow packets must be created during sFlow configuration.

Procedure

  1. Run:

    system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    sflow agent { ip ip-address | ipv6 ipv6-address } *

    An IP address is configured for an sFlow agent.

    By default, an sFlow agent uses the IP address of the outbound interface in a route to the sFlow collector as an ip address of sFlow agent.

    The IP address of an sFlow agent is contained in the data field of sFlow packets, and uniquely identifies an sFlow agent. It is recommended that you configure the IP address of an sFlow agent manually.

  3. (Optional) Run:

    sflow source { ip ip-address | ipv6 ipv6-address } *

    The source IP address of sFlow packets is configured.

    By default, an sFlow agent uses the IP address of the outbound interface in a route destined for the sFlow collector as a source IP address of sFlow packets.

  4. Run:

    sflow collector collector-id { ip ip-address | ipv6 ipv6-address } [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name | length length-value | udp-port udp-port-number | description description  ] *

    Parameters are set for an sFlow collector.

    By default, no sFlow collector is configured. A maximum of two sFlow collectors can be configured in the system.

  5. Run:

    commit

    The configuration is committed.

Configuring an sFlow Sampling Mode

Context

An sFlow agent provides two sampling modes: flow sampling and counter sampling.

  • Flow sampling is based on data packets. An sFlow agent samples and analyzes packets in a direction on a specified interface based on the sampling ratio. Then the sFlow agent encapsulates the original packets and parsing result into sFlow packets, and sends the sFlow packets to an sFlow collector.
  • Counter sampling is based on time. An sFlow agent periodically collects traffic statistics, processor statistics, and memory usage on an interface, encapsulates collected information in sFlow packets, and sends the sFlow packets to an sFlow collector.

Flow sampling and counter sampling are independent of each other. Flow sampling obtains information about flows of a specified service, whereas counter sampling obtains traffic statistics on an interface. It is recommended that you use both the two sampling modes.

Procedure

  • Configure flow sampling.
    1. Run:

      system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run:

      interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run:

      sflow sampling { collector { collector-id } &<1-2> | rate rate | length length | inbound | outbound } *

      Flow sampling is configured.

      By default, flow sampling is not configured for interfaces.

      NOTE:

      The collector-id parameter and flow sampling direction must be specified; otherwise, the sFlow function does not take effect.

    4. Run:

      commit

      The configuration is committed.

  • Configure counter sampling.
    1. Run:

      system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run:

      interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run:

      sflow counter { collector { collector-id } &<1-2> | interval interval } *

      Counter sampling is configured.

      By default, counter sampling is not configured on interfaces.

      NOTE:

      The collector-id parameter must be specified; otherwise, the sFlow function does not take effect.

    4. Run:

      commit

      The configuration is committed.

Checking the Configuration

Prerequisites

The sFlow configuration is complete.

Procedure

  • Run the display sflow configuration [ all | interface interface-type interface-number ] command to check the configuration information of the sFlow.
