Enabling Master/Slave Switchover

Enabling Master/Slave Switchover

To implement backup between master and standby switches in a stack with multiple switches, enable the master/slave switchover function to allow the original standby switch to become the new master switch.

In a stack containing multiple switches, you can manually perform a switchover between the master and standby switches during software upgrade or system maintenance. After the master/slave switchover is complete, the original master switch restarts and joins the stack, and the original standby switch becomes the new master switch.

Before a master/slave switchover, check whether the stack is ready for a switchover. The master/slave switchover can be performed only when the stack meets switchover requirements.

  1. (Optional) Run:

    display switchover state

Information about master and slave switchover is displayed, which helps check whether the stack meets switchover requirements.

You can perform a master/slave switchover only when the Switchover State field displays Ready.

  2. Run:

    The system view is displayed.

  3. Run:

    slave switchover enable

    Master/slave device switchover is enabled.

By default, master/slave switchover is enabled.

  4. Run:

    slave switchover

    A master/slave switchover is performed.
